about Me

I’m Eirene (pronounced 'a rainy,' like a rainy day). Welcome to my lifestyle blog, Whiskers on Kittens. So glad you dropped by.

I’m a novelist currently editing my first novel, I’m Glad There is You, while simultaneously trying to hammer my way through the first draft of my second, as yet untitled. This process has been one of the most educational of my life to date. And, while the struggles of how to edit and what to edit have been daunting and difficult at times, writing is most definitely one of my favorite things. (Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic My Favorite Things is lilting through my head as I write this. Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens… I sing this song a lot, hence, the blog.)

I have a profound love of reading, writing, and not arithmetic. I’m a novelist/artist; I married an engineer. It’s safer if he does the math.

We reside in the rural hills outside of Nashville, Tennessee, having relocated here twelve years ago from the concrete jungle of New York City. Also sharing our residence are seven cats- all foundlings who meowed their way into our hearts. Our most recent edition is our son, Judah Ben, who’s is as cute as button, lovable as a kittens, and smart as a whip. We’re a compassionate, soft-hearted lot here, and, I shudder to say it, but there may even be room for one more.

I have a Pollyanna personality; I love to look at everyday things in new and unexpected ways. (That could also be the years of Fine Arts training as well.) So often those small everyday occurrences- acts of common courtesy, kindness, and graciousness- are the building blocks that make life wonderful. And so often, they go unnoticed. Yet, when we walk around with our eyes open or our ears tuned to those very things, we step into a treasure trove, supplying our lives with wealth unquantifiable. To paraphrase Lena Lamont in Singin’ in the Rain, we bring a little joy into our hum-drum lives. Hopefully, we’ll be able to discover some of those everyday wonders that reshape our world together. Wouldn’t it be fabulous to be able to say with absolute honesty, And I think to myself, What a wonderful world.
